T-shirt fungus Leratiomyces erythrocephalus

This semi-hypogeal mushroom can be found in New Zealand, and since it's so far away we decided to bring it to you in a vintage 1920s matchbox illustration style.

Also known as scarlet pouch, it is a mushroom that never opens and has adapted to disperse its spores without opening. Its bright red color attracts birds and small animals that eat and digest it and leave spores in their waste that are spread across the forest floor and then become more scarlet pouches.
